A modular, soil-based growing platform engineered for efficient water and nutrient delivery, low pumping demand and scalable production.

Development

The OmniGro system was developed and field-tested through a USDA NRCS Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production award in a solar-powered greenhouse on Kaua‘i.

Across multiple crop cycles, the pilot documented:

  • 40–50 pounds of cucumbers per week from a representative 48–60-square-foot growing row

  • 4–6 minutes of irrigation pump time per day 

  • Approximately 36.5 gallons of water per week during vegetative growth and 70 gallons per week during flowering and fruiting per 8-unit row

  • Approximately 5–7 hours of labor per week for operation of the full pilot garden

  • Successful cultivation across at least 12 crop types, including leafy greens, fruiting crops, vining crops, root crops and herbs

  • Reliable operation under variable heat, humidity and temporary power interruptions

These findings reflect repeated operational measurements and observations under real-world growing conditions. Expanded multi-site research will strengthen comparative performance benchmarking.
